Specific regulations apply to memorials in both the Victorian and Modern Sections of the cemetery, copies of which are available at the Gatehouse.

We are happy to provide a list of the various stonemasons approved to do work at York Cemetery. For further information, please contact the Cemetery Warden on 01904 610578 or email admin@yorkcemetery.org.uk.

Only Trust-approved stonemasons may do work at York Cemetery. Under no circumstances must you attempt to install, repair or remove any memorial stones yourself, for your own safety and that of other cemetery users. 

Grave ornaments and tributes

The Trustees understand that relatives and friends like to place other objects on graves in memory of a loved one. Please help us in caring for the site by checking with the Cemetery Manager before placing any such objects on a grave so that we can advise you on what is and is not appropriate. Please do not place any glass and metal objects on graves as these break easily and can present a danger to Cemetery visitors and wildlife.

In addition to bespoke new memorials, York Cemetery Memorials our in-house stonemasons, also offer a range of restoration and cleaning services, including the restoration of lead lettering, straightening of historical monuments, and cleaning and refitting of kerb sets.
