Memorial Inscriptions

Text: Choosing what to put on your loved ones memorial can be a bit of a daunting task: and best considered in the context of blocks of text. The blocks can be placed in any order, or at any position on your memorial and Rob, our memorial designer, can help you decide the best layout for the headstone you have chosen. You will be sent proofs of the layout for you to check the spellings, dates, fonts and spacings to ensure that you get exactly what you want. Remember, the examples below are only suggestions and it is possible to have other wording –

In ever loving memory of… In remembrance of…
In memory of… Sacred to the memory of
Precious memories of…

Relationship – next you may wish to consider placing a relationship descriptor, for example, Husband, Wife, Father, Mother, Partner, etc. You may wish to add additional texts – such as A Dear…. or A Devoted….. or Our Beloved….

Age & Dates: You may wish to add the age of your loved one, but it is not a legal requirement. Likewise, you can add their dates, but again it is not a legal requirement and you may wish to leave this off the memorial. You may wish to add a line of text, and some examples are given below.

Additional texts, poems, prayers:

additional texts can be added and there are no hard and fast rules. Many people opt for the familiar lines, examples are given below to help you. But, equally, many people choose to compose their own words and we are happy use this to help you create a truly personal tribute. If you require an inscription in any language other than English, please talk to Rob about your requirements and you will need to provide the inscription exactly as you wish it to appear.

Proofing: you will be required to proof read and agree the final versions of all memorial inscriptions. It is important you check spellings and dates carefully especially where the inscription includes any text not in standard British English.
